| Our
stoneware pottery is durable, versatile and safe to use. Fired to
2336 degrees F, also
known
as "cone 9", it is ovenware, microwave safe, and dishwasher
safe. Our clay and
glazes
contain no harmful materials. For baking we suggest warming our
pieces in the
oven,
rather than placing it in a preheated oven. Mugs and teapots should
be rinsed with
hot tap
water before pouring in boiling water. These precautions will eliminate
the drastic
temperature
changes that sometimes cause damage to a piece of stoneware.
Stoneware
is a natural and abundant clay in use for millennia. Primitive kilns
limited early
potters
to low temperature ranges. The ancient Chinese were among the first
to develop
high
fired stoneware pottery dating back to about 500 BC.
Contemporary
clay bodies will vary in color - from beige to tan to honey to brown,
depending
on the iron content and firing methods. Our stoneware is our own
formulation,
combining
several clays mined throughout the Midwestern United States. Raw
stoneware
clay
is a joy to work with - It is "plastic" meaning malleable
It has minimal shrinkage and
warp
and it stands up well to stressful high firing . Our special formulated
glazes blend and fuse
with the stoneware creating warm and durable colors - characteristic
to our work.
With
proper care our stoneware pottery will provide you with years of
pleasure.
